Rich Dad Poor Dad in Indonesia

Rich Dad : The typical lifestyles of the rich dad are listed below.
Lives in BIG bungalows with villas in every places (Singapore, Australia,UK, etc.)
Many servants - since their pay is only Rp 250 000 to Rp 600 000 (S$50 to S$ 120)
many cars - i saw my student's house at least 4 cars (maybe no COE so can afford to buy?)
Travel during holidays to Europe taking Business class for the whole family. Accomodation? u make a guess, 4 star or 5 star?
Big business like owner of well known restaurants, patrol station, jewellery shop, TV stations, bank, etc.
Education - international schools with school fees amount to few thousands US dollars per term for their children. Otherwise, their children will be studying overseas with own bungalow n car.

Poor Dad : These are the really unfortunate one in here.
No house, stay under bridge or along the dusty road.
No job - beg for food & money. Sometimes, kids as young as few years old begging for food on the street, along the road.
No education.
No integrity-they do whatever they can to survive.
No money or saving.

The living standard here is very low. To quote few examples, see below.
A simple meal of rice, 1 main dish cost Rp 5000 (S$0.85)
Coca-Cola:Rp2000 (S$0.33)
T-shirt :Rp 10 000 (S$1.70)
DVD-not original : Rp 5000 (S$0.85) Buy 10 get 1 free
Facial : Rp 80 000 onwards (S$13.60)
Spa : Rp 150 000 (S$25)
Transport by Trans Jakarta (Air-con)flat rate: Rp 3500 (S$0.60)
Restaurant meal with drink: Rp 100 000 (S$17)
Maid's pay per month(stay in): Rp 250 000 (S$42)
2 room apartment (fully furnish) : rental =Rp 30 million/yr (S$5084/yr), buy=Rp 300 million (S$51k)

This article is jsut an observation of what i know, what i see. I used to be a mountain tortise, open my mouth wide wide when i heard about how rich the people here can be. But now,my mouth not so big aldy, unless u can really impress me. Still must say, 'The gap between the rich & poor are too wide.'

Egg with 2 egg yolks

Flooding days in Jakarta. Bad. TV was saying as high as 2 metres. Areas like Bogor, Bundung worst. This is the most seriuos diaster i have seen since i came here 2 1/2 years ago.
The man walking was sitting on the boat a momnt ago. This is actually the entrance to a University, just opposite my condominium. Apparently he asked the men (i would assume is the security guides to row him out of the school, who else would have access to a boat?). Wonder how much he paid them.
Just did a stock check on food supply:
  • a newly bought 5-kg rice
  • 3/4 full AQUA water (in case anyone ask, we dare not boil the tap water here so those who can afford always drink AQUA, per gallon Rp 9500)
  • 1 kg of raw fatty pork meat (asked Chen to help me buy from market last saturday)
  • 3 canned foods (sardine, pork, zha chai)
  • 1/2 pkt mushroom, ikan bilis, 2 pears...etc.

Guess can last for few days. Will go check see whether got vegetables at HERO tomorrow or not, seem like no rain tonight.

No rain=no flood=car can move=got fresh vegetables

She bought the last bunch of vegetable

Went to HERO this morning, it looks like diaster is coming soon. A sense of panick passed through me. My imagination went wild : if the flood is not going to subside the next few days, i will run out of my 1 kg of pork, my canned foods....

So, i grabbed the red basket & started to do some marketing.

Went to the vegetable counter, nothing green there except for a last bunch of vegetable(i think the name is ji chang-for decoration on top of steam fish). Below are the things that are out of stock :

  • potatoes
  • eggs (3 broken one left)
  • Yakult
  • green vegetables or long beans
  • canned sardines & others (shelves almost empty so unable to identify what is missing)
  • Instant noodles (Indo Mee almost all gone-so Indonesian mainly love this brand)
  • Rice left 30 or 40 pkts

Lucky for me, still able to grab some canned food (2 cans of mushroom, 1 baked bean, 1 mushroom soup), 1 pkt of Indomilk, apple juice, a bar of Queen chocolate.

Hmmm, as a precaution-in case i get bored at home, i also bought my favourtite Seng Kong (titbits-i seldom eat chips but this is different, damn crispy, u should try)

Total amount spent is Rp 99.715 (arount S$17)

While queuing up, saw this mother-daughter gang behind me. They bought the last greenary on the shelves :)

This lady in front of me also very cute . Guess she is very bored while waiting (i must admit, took about 5 to 10 minutes), she looked around her & saw this bunch of bananas deserted by somebody. She grabbed & placed it inside her basket.

Hey! That was easy shopping. So, i did the same by looking around me on the floor. Baskets are lying around without owners & the staffs are all very busy, no one bother to replace those food inside the basket to the shelves.

Towels? No, i don't need it. Bread? Eeerr, looks distorted, no way am i going to eat it. After surveying for a while to kill time, i gave up. Nothing i needed or looked appealing to me.

Oh! That photo on top,it had nothing to do with the supermarket shopping lah. Just a photos i took 2 days ago outside my apartment. I like the colour of the umbrella. Bring some colours to this groomy day, don't you think so?

Latest new: no school tomorrow for my kids.
